The hot summer weather has books showing up here in droves . It seems the schools are sweating books.

The hot summer weather has books showing up here in droves . It seems the schools are sweating books.
But why?
School cleaning; books removed from storage
School closings due to low enrollment
Retiring teachers
Teachers moving from one grade level to another
New curriculum
New textbook editions

The books will “vacation” here until late August, early September when they'll leave here in waves. We'll see 95 lb teachers muscling 200 lbs of books out the door. Many of the books will go back to the same school or teacher who dropped them off. The textbooks dropped off by the private schools which buy the new edition every 2 years will go to a public school. The public schools' books will go to underfunded private schools. The underfunded private schools' books will go to homeschoolers. The homeschoolers books will go to ......

Some observations:

There is at least a 75 degree temperature difference between a box of books from an air conditioned car and one from the trunk of a hot car.

Have the hoards of stink bugs finally retreated? Will they return in 17 years?

People who ship us books put 12 pieces of tape on the top of the box and 1 on the bottom.

Hooray!

I just discovered your organization through a stamped book that made it's way down to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas (think Mexico). I'm beyond excited about what you do and I'm about to send a friend to raid your store to ship a plethora of books to South Texas. I only wish I could come and dig through your books myself.

Thank you so much for doing this! I know that my 5th grade classroom will be thrilled to have an influx of books!
